A word from me... Hi. Like many people I have been skiing for quite a while and can remember the days at the many resorts around Scotland where the snow was from horizon to horizon and to be honest it wasn't that long ago. In the last few years I have noticed, along with every other skier, skibiker and boarder, that our winters are just not the same. We have wetter and warmer winters and that affects our snow. There is the hue and cry about Global Warming and how it affects us and I am no expert but there is direct links to the increase in our energy consumption and carbon emissions that is currently affecting the world climate. This has ranged from warm winters, our Polar Ice Caps melting and yes, dear to our heart, less snow in Scotland. But we are not alone as Europe has has less snow this year too. I watched a documentary called An Inconvenient Truth by the American Presidential Candidate, Al Gore. It really did open my eyes to what was going on. It has motivated me to reduce my personal carbon footprint in the hope that other people will do the same and hopefully get our snow back on the moutains once again. You can make a difference! Cars also have a direct on polluting our world due to exhaust fumes and the sheer number of cars on the road make it a major issue. I use my pushbike to go to work and only use my car to get the Ski Resorts. When I use my car I use cleaner fuels such as BP Ultima so I have a cleaner engine and less emissions. An added bonus here is that I also get extra mileage to my tank! Not everyone can do what I do but if we all do a little bit it can make a big difference. Click here to find out more on car tips.
