Q. What is a Snowbike? A. A Snowbike is a specially designed bike frame that uses skis instead of wheels. There is also two foot-skis that are essential to the use of a Snowbike. Q. Snowbikes? Are they safe? A. Snowbikes are very safe. With four points on contact on the snow and your low centre of gravity you adopt a very stable riding position. Compared to Snowboarding or Skiing where you have only one or two points of contact and a high centre of gravity. Q. OK…how I do stop it? A. Very easily. In the most basic way all you have to do is look over your shoulder and back up the slope….the bike will turn into the hill and you will slow down and stop! Q. …and steer it? A. Very easily…if you look over your left shoulder you turn left and if you look over your right shoulder you turn right! Q. You make it sound very easy! A. It is!!! Q. How do you operate the lifts? A. The tows are operated in the same way as skiing. You either place the button between your legs or place the T-Bar behind your buttocks! Remember to keep your skis pointing forward at all times and stand up straight. Q. …and the Chairlift? A. The Chair is a bit different. You just pick up the bike, sit on the chair and rest the front of the saddle on the chair arm. Once you are comfortable pull the safety bar down and pull the handle bar under the safety arm and hold onto the bike on the way up. To get off you either hold the bike up and footski off or place the bike alongside the chair and ski off leaning on the handlebars. Q. I get sore legs from Skiing and Snowboarding. Is Snowbiking the same? A. Not at all…..you can almost Snowbike all day without getting sore legs!
